If you’re anything like me then the chances are that you get asked by various charities to donate something to them at least weekly if not more often, be that by cold calls on your doorstep, by telephone or good old fashioned collection tin rattling.  The thing is however much we might wish to be philanthropic we can’t donate to them all and some causes will mean more to us than others, so I like many of you choose to help KBMT by giving up both time and money towards the cause.

The thing is it might not always be obvious what we do with your hard earned money when you hand it over to us, so I thought I’d let you know what we’re allocating money to at the moment.  The main area of spend for donations is our priority restoration project, KBMTs Leeds Corporation Transport AEC Regent V, ENW 980D.  As the vehicle is undergoing a major overhaul and restoration there is a lot of money to spend to bring it back to life to give you a flavour of the amounts involved we’re sure to need the following:

  • A full set of tyres £1200.00
  • Partial interior re-trim £3500.00
  • Full re-paint of the exterior £3000.00
  • Destination blinds, winding gear etc £800.00
  • Front and Rear brake overhaul & rebuild £750.00
  • New ‘treadmaster’ flooring for the interior £1000.00

As you can see we have a lot to spend and the money we make at events you have supported and through donations you make help to bring us closer and closer to the completion of this project.

At least next time you come to one of our events or donate you’ll know what we need to spend the money on and hopefully you’ll agree that getting another historically important vehicle back on the road is well worth it.

If you can help with the restoration of Leeds 980 then please do get in touch as I’d love to hear from you – iainsimpson@kbmt.org.uk or 07501 250676.  If you’d like to make a donation to the restoration please click here.
